The new Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) Executive Council for 2024-2025 has been sworn in. Let us get to know them in this short snippet!

The thirteen new members of the PAO Executive Council Solemnly  take their oaths to serve.

Our newly esteemed PAO president is Dr. Mary Ellen Sy. Dr Sy is a graduate of St. Louis University and completed her residency at Philippine General Hospital. She currently practices in The Medical City, Ospital ng Makati, and the American Eye Center. She is an ED-Cornea specialist.

Dr. Raymond Nelson Regalado is a man of many hats, with vice president of the PAO being his latest one. He is a graduate of St. Luke’s Medical Center and St. Luke’s Eye Institute, where he also serves as their Residency Training Officer. He currently practices in St. Luke’s Medical Center, Fatima University Medical Center, Amang Rodriguez Memorial Center, Ospital ng Makati, and United Doctors Medical Center. He is an ED-Cornea specialist.

Dr. Lyll Karen Arriola serves as the new Secretary for the PAO Executive Council. She is an alumna of the prestigious Cebu Institute of Medicine and the Cebu Velez General Hospital residency program. She currently practices in Cebu Doctors University Hospital, Chong Hua Hospital, Perpetual Succor Hospital, the Cebu Velez General Hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, and the ACES Eye Referral Center. She is a vitreo-retina and uveitis specialist.

Our new treasurer, Dr. Miriam Louella Fermin, better known as Doc Yam, graduated from FEU-NRMF for both her medical school and ophthalmology residency. She also serves as the chair of the FEU-NRMF Ophthalmology department. She currently practices in FEU-NRMF Medical Center, Ospital ng Makati, and Veterans Memorial Medical Center. She is a neuro-ophthalmologist.

Rounding out the Executive Council are our honored councilors:

Dr. Carlos Chua, a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Strabismus specialist from St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Dr. Rainer Covar, a Glaucoma specialist from the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital.

Dr. Norman Fajardo, a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Strabismus specialist from East Avenue Medical Center.

Dr. Eleonore Iguban, an ED-Cornea and Vitreo-Retina specialist from the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital.

Dr. Mark Imperial, an Orbit and Oculoplastics specialist from Cardinal Santos Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Cesar Perez, a Glaucoma specialist from the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital.

Dr. Roseny Singson, an Oculoplastic, Orbit, Lacrimal, and Reconstructive Surgery specialist culoplasty specialist from the University of Santo Tomas.

Dr. Charisse Tanlapco, an Oculoplastic, Orbit, Lacrimal, and Reconstructive Surgery specialist from the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center.

We also extend our recognition and gratitude to Dr. Vicente Ocampo, Jr for serving as our immediate past president. His great efforts and many contributions have helped shape the PAO as we know it today.

May our new Executive Council rise to the challenge of leading the academy to ever greater heights!
