To strengthen interpersonal bonds, ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists-in-training participated in team building activities along the city’s famous rapids. Residents traded their surgical scrubs for life vests, navigating the Cagayan de Oro River together—a powerful exercise in trust, communication, and collective resilience. Whitewater rafting is one of the most popular adventure activities in the Philippines. The journey takes participants through a series of exciting rapids surrounded by lush forests, rocky cliffs, and beautiful river scenery.

Following the coastal and urban experiences in Cagayan de Oro, the contingent traveled south into the highlands of Bukidnon to experience a different facet of Northern Mindanao. The residents explored vast pineapple plantations, traversed the breathtaking ridges of Dahilayan, and immersed themselves in the region’s rich eco-tourism.

After a day of learning and exploration, the ophthalmology residents enjoyed the rich flavors of Bukidnon’s local cuisine. They sampled fresh fruits, grilled specialties, and dishes prepared from locally sourced ingredients, showcasing the province’s agricultural abundance. The shared meals provided an opportunity for camaraderie and relaxation, allowing the residents to appreciate not only Bukidnon’s natural beauty but also its vibrant food culture.

The convention concluded with fellowship night, this celebrated the newfound friendships and strengthened professional ties. As the delegates prepare to return to their respective provinces, they leave Northern Mindanao not only with enhanced clinical perspectives but also with a unified spirit– ready to collaborate on future initiatives to eliminate preventable blindness across the country.
